 History

Church of the Redeemer began in 1950 as the chapel of a national church training center for priests and seminarians who were studying to serve in rural communities. In 1956 the congregation became a mission of the Diocese of West Missouri. In 1959, Redeemer decided to become a parish and purchased five acres of land at its current site and began construction of "the little gray church with red doors". It opened in November 1960. In 1981, Redeemer gained parish status. A second addition was made to accommodate the growing church in 1987, and a third completed in early 2003.  Photo by H. Burt Eldridge.
